Once you have been offered a car share partner, please take the following steps to enhance your safety:

• Avoid exchanging home addresses with your new travelling partner before you meet them.
• Before travelling with a new partner for the first time, always arrange to meet in a public place and ensure you show each other some photo I.D’s (e.g. passport, student card etc) so you each know you’re talking with the right person.
• This first meeting is the opportunity get to know a little about your potential partner and to discuss likes and dislikes while travelling but do not be embarrassed to ask any driver to show you his/her valid driving licence, insurance cover note and MOT certificate.
• At least for the first time you travel with a new partner, give a friend or family member the details of your journey, who you are travelling with, and when you expect to arrive.
• You are under no obligation to go ahead with any car share arrangement - if you have any doubts about your travelling companion partner or the state of the vehicle, do not travel with them.
